About the Role

As a Senior Veterinary Nurse at our Wacol Domestic Hospital, you’ll sit at the heart of our Veterinary Services team, combining hands-on nursing with meaningful people leadership and operational influence. You’ll guide, mentor and develop veterinary nurses, hospital assistants, trainees and volunteers, while helping shape a positive, high-performing and supportive hospital culture.

From providing complex clinical care to coaching your team and improving workflows, this role is diverse and varied. You’ll work closely with other senior leaders to shape how our Domestic Hospital delivers outstanding care.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, mentor and support veterinary nurses, hospital assistants, trainees and volunteers.
  • Set clear expectations, delegate effectively and provide clinical guidance.
  • Manage trainee nursing programs and relationships with training partners.
  • Conduct performance reviews, feedback and development planning.
  • Support onboarding, training and team engagement initiatives.
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care across routine, emergency and complex cases.
  • Assist with surgery, anaesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
  • Perform diagnostics, emergency response, triage and critical care.
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records and documentation.
  • Support day-to-day hospital operations and efficient workflows.
  • Partner with veterinarians on case management and patient flow.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, protocols and infection control.
  • Oversee stock ordering, inventory and equipment availability.
  • Support service initiatives, new systems and clinical guidelines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cross-team collaboration.

            

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising or mentoring a clinical team.
  • Strong clinical capability across medical, surgical and emergency nursing.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making in complex or high-pressure situations.
  • Clear, professional communication and the ability to build trust quickly.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and commitment to team development.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Resilience, adaptability and a positive, can-do mindset.
  • Alignment with RSPCA Queensland’s mission, values and commitment to animal welfare.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including manual handling (minimum 10kg lift).
